Each study will have an error in one of the questions. It is our duty as believers to test everything that we read or hear with the Bible. So this will be a mini exercise in testing what is being said in class.

Q1) According to what the Lord says in verse 1, what does justification by faith provide us with?

Discussion)    It provides us with having peace with God.  This what the whole world is striving for is peace and God provides this for those that have faith in Him.  In verse 2 we see that we have access by faith into God’s grace in which we stand.

Q2) Verses 3-5 explain whey we should glory in our tribulations. Why should we glory in a situation where perhaps someone may even be dying?

Discussion)    We should glory in our tribulations in that it will produce hope and that the hope does not disappoint.  I gave the story of how my grandfather used to tell me stories when I was younger and he was proud of the trials that he endured which brought about character.  In the natural we can have tribulation that produces perseverance which then produces character, but then it becomes a pride issue and there is no hope.  Paul shows through what he goes through that there is hope through Jesus Christ.

Q3) Verse 6 speaks of God’s love for us. What state was man in when Christ died for us?

Discussion)    Man was fallen and powerless towards God.  We talked about how man was in a state of brokenness and needed Jesus Christ as the Savior.

Q4) According to verses 7 and 8 many people are willing to die for each other. Why is this?

Clues)    This is the trick question.

Discussion)    We talked how people are willing to die for members of their immediate family but it goes against human nature to die for someone else.  But God provided hope in that He sent Jesus to earth to die for us while we were mocking, blaspheming, and looking after our own self interests.

Q5) Read I John 4:16 and I Thessalonians 1:10. If God is love, according to verse 9, why is the word wrath associated with Him? Whom or what is it directed at?

Discussion)    His wrath is not directed towards humans but toward sin, the devil, and his demons.  We discussed how in the Old Testament that God poured out His wrath upon nations since they did not want to listen to God.  After the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God has subsided His wrath (since we are in the age of grace) until the Great White Throne Judgment.  At this time, all the wrath that God has against sin, the devil, and his demons will be revealed.  His wrath will come upon those who reject Jesus as their personal Savior here on earth, since they will be sent to a tormenting hell forever.  God’s ultimate wrath will be subjected upon the devil and his demons once and for all.

Q6) Verse 11 speaks of our joy. How can one have joy when we know that God is going to show and use His wrath to judge the earth one day?

Discussion)    We can have joy since we know that we have already been judged through the life of Jesus Christ, if Jesus is your Lord and Savior.  Since this wrath will pass over us we can rejoice and have joy for ourselves, but (read the life application)…

LIFE APPLICATION: Why is it so important to shout and proclaim to others the reconciliation process that the Lord provided through Jesus?

Discussion)    Without Jesus each person will go to hell after all of the judgments are done.  We need to shout it from the mountaintops and tell others what Jesus has done for each of us.  We cannot keep this a secret at all.
