Romans 11:25-36 – November 25, 2007

ISRAEL WILL EVENTUALLY BE SAVED (verses 25 – 36)

Each study will have an error in one of the questions. It is our duty as believers to test everything that we read or hear with the Bible. So this will be a mini exercise in testing what is being said in class.

Q1) Read I Corinthians 2:6-10 and Ephesians 3:3-5 and 9. According to verse 25, what is this “mystery” spoken of here by Paul, why do we need to know about it, and whom does God use to reveal this “mystery” to us?

Discussion)    The mystery talked about is Jesus Christ and what He came and did on the cross.  Remember that we had talked about how the Jews were looking for a Messiah to come and completely destroy their enemies with an iron fist.  Jesus did not come this way but came to give us spiritual life and that was the mystery.

Q2) God says that we were enemies with Him at one time. Read Romans 5:10 then read verse 28. How are the Jewish people enemies for our sake?

Discussion)    They are enemies for our sake in that they rejected Jesus Christ when He was on earth.  If they would have accepted Him, then He would not have died on the cross.  So they rejected Him and that opened up salvation not only to the Jews but also to the Gentiles.

Q3) Explain verse 29 (Can also read Hebrews 7:21).

Discussion)    This means that all the gifts and the calling of God are not taken away by God.  They are not based upon our performance but completely based upon God.

Q4) Explain verses 30 and 31.

Discussion)    That through the disobedience of the Jews that the Gentiles obtained salvation.  This is not to say that the Jews only killed Jesus on the cross.  We all, by each one of our sins, hung Jesus on the cross.  Through this disobedience God allowed His mercy to be shown through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Q5) When Paul says in verse 32 that God has shut up some in disobedience, what does he mean?

Clues)    This was the trick question

Discussion)    God shut all up to disobedience meaning that every one of us have sinned not just some.  This way all of us are the same in that each one of us needs a Savior and He is Jesus Christ.

Q6) Romans 11:34 kind of leaves one feeling like, “How can I ever really know God?” Yet I Corinthians 2:16 says we have the mind of Christ. How is this encouraging to the believer?

Discussion)    This is encouraging to the believer in that no matter what happens we know that with the mind of Christ that we can follow what the Lord is doing even if it seems like it is coming out of left field.

LIFE APPLICATION: Give a prophetic example from the Old or New Testament that proves to you or is special to you, of why you know, that you know, that you know, that God keeps His Word and will do what He said He would do – now and in the future – and why do you know this?

Discussion)    Many items were given that people stand upon, such as the healings in the church that we have seen, the promises fulfilled by God about Israel throughout the Old Testament, how God stepped in during the ordeal that Job went through, etc.
